“It’s one of the most incredible seasons we’ve ever put together!”
So says Robert Richardson, Program Director with Marquis Entertainment and one of the organizing forces behind the annual Amphitheatre Series at Jackson-Triggs Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. And with the official announcement of the 2019 line-up recently announced, Richardson could be right.
Along with perennial favourites like Sam Roberts and Alan Doyle and familiar faces like The Sheepdogs and Broken Social Scene, this year’s festival line-up includes iconic Canadian singer/songwriters Tom Cochrane, Randy Bachman and Bruce Cockburn.
“It’s one of those interesting years this year when you look at it, and we have a really good combination of events,” said Richardson of the Jackson-Triggs line-up. “From a headliner perspective, we have so many top Canadian names coming in this year. There are a lot of favourites there, like Chantel (Kraviazuk) and Raine (Maida), Dan Mangan and Donovan Woods, July Talk from a bit of a younger demo and Matt Mays.”
Since building the amphitheatre nestled into the vineyards of their NOTL winery, Jackson-Triggs has been a leader in this kind of event marketing, taking wine tourism to new heights and attracting a large regional fanbase of their concert series. Other wineries have since begun to follow their lead, which is a sense of pride for Jackson-Triggs according to Richardson.
“I know that it was always something that Donald Triggs and Allan Jackson, when they built this amphitheatre, realized that music tourism was going to be a separator, something to hang their hat on from the winery’s perspective,” said Richardson. “Certainly being able to combine the best of Canadian wine with great Canadian music was always top of mind for them with this winery. I think they’ve done an amazing job of being able to entice some of the biggest names in Canadian music to come play such an intimate venue.”
The success of the program has meant tickets are always at a premium. As a result, Richardson suggests fans of the artists on this year’s schedule act quickly if they want to see their favourite artists in one of the best summer venues for outdoor concerts.
“Honestly, it’s been unprecedented when I talk to other people in the industry,” said Richardson. “We could sell out 70 or 80 percent of our tickets in a day. Some shows will literally go on sale and sell out. Sam Roberts Saturday night will go in four minutes. When people see what’s coming up in the season people will react quickly.
As always, the Jackston-Triggs concert series will be support War Child during each show. For details visit www.jacksontriggswinery.com.
